Delhi Police have cracked the murder of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant whose charred body was found earlier this month in a burnt apartment in Gandhi Vihar, a case that first appeared to be a fire accident but turned out to be a chilling crime of passion and revenge.
The victim, identified as Ramkesh Meena, was allegedly killed by his live-in partner and two others, who later set his flat ablaze to pass the murder off as an accident. What was initially thought to be an air-conditioner blast was, in fact, a carefully orchestrated cover-up.
Days after Meena’s body was discovered, police arrested three people, his 21-year-old live-in partner Amrita Chauhan, her former boyfriend Sumit Kashyap (27), and their friend Sandeep Kumar (29), all residents of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Amrita, a B.Sc. Forensic Science student, had been living with Meena since May. But when she discovered that he had secretly recorded her private videos and refused to delete them despite her repeated pleas, their relationship took a dark turn.
Enraged and humiliated, Amrita confided in Sumit, her ex-boyfriend, who decided to help her “teach him a lesson”, roping in his friend Sandeep to execute the plan.
