Hathras (UP): A shocking theft has been reported in the Mohalla Nai Basti area, where a woman allegedly stole jewellery worth around ₹50 lakh that had been kept for her sister-in-law’s wedding.
The victim, identified as Akram (alias Kalua), had stored the gold ornaments — including chains, bangles, rings, and necklaces — in his home ahead of his sister’s wedding scheduled on November 11. The ornaments went missing on the night of October 23, according to the complaint lodged at Hathras Gate Police Station.
During the investigation, it emerged that the accused is Akram’s wife, who reportedly had strained relations with her sister-in-law and did not want the jewellery to be handed over. Upon questioning by police, the woman allegedly admitted to committing the theft and reportedly sent the stolen items to her parents’ home.
Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha confirmed the recovery of the ornaments and said they are being handed back to the family. Further legal proceedings are ongoing.
The incident has added to growing concern over domestic trust and security of high-value items kept within households ahead of major familial events like weddings.
