Secure release of five Tamils abducted in Mali: Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board urges Centre

The Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board on Monday (November 10, 2025) wrote to Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar, requesting immediate diplomatic intervention for the safe release of five Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu, who have reportedly been kidnapped in the West African country of Mali, while working on an electrification project.

In his letter, the Board’s chairperson Karthikeya Sivasenapathy expressed grave concern over the safety of the abducted Tamils and urged swift and coordinated efforts through the Indian Embassy in Bamako, Mali, and international agencies to ensure their safe return.

Assuring assistance from the Board, Mr. Sivasenapathy said: “The safety and welfare of Tamil ‘citizens’ working abroad is of utmost importance. We urge the Ministry of External Affairs to act swiftly to bring our people back home safely.”
