Jadavpur University Student, Who Went Missing On Train, Found Dead In Kansabati River

A tragic incident has occurred involving a student from Jadavpur University in West Bengal, whose body was discovered in the Kansabati river. The student, Soham Patra, aged 20, was in his third year at the Arts Department of the university and hailed from Bankura. Police recovered his body on Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening, Patra was travelling to Bankura in West Bengal with his mother on the Howrah-Adra Shiromani Express. Before reaching Medinipur station, Patra’s mother went to the toilet and upon her return, found her son missing. Fellow passengers reported seeing Soham heading towards the door, but he was nowhere to be found.

The following morning, Patra’s body was located near the Kansai river in Medinipur city. Local residents assisted railway and district police in recovering the body. Authorities are investigating whether Soham fell from the train or jumped into the river. According to reports, no formal complaint has been lodged at the police station.

Patra’s home is situated in ward number 15 of Bankura city, and his family arrived in Medinipur on Tuesday night. Patra’s uncle reportedly resides in Medinipur city. A district police officer confirmed that the body will be sent to Kharagpur sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem examination.

Despite the absence of a family complaint, police have registered a case of unnatural death and commenced an investigation into the incident.
