Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Saturday visited the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to review operations in the aftermath of the technical glitch that disrupted and delayed over 800 domestic and international flights on Friday.
Naidu said that as the ATC system is now fully operational, he directed officials to conduct a detailed analysis and enhance system redundancy to make the ATC network more resilient for the future.
“Visited the ATC Tower at Delhi Airport today to review operations after the technical glitch in the ATC messaging system. Over the past two days, teams from AAI, ANS, and ECIL worked tirelessly to identify and resolve the issue while ensuring passenger safety through manual coordination. As systems are fully restored now, I have further directed officials to conduct a detailed root-cause analysis and enhance system redundancy to make our ATC network more resilient for the future,” he said while sharing photos of his visit in a post on X.

ATC Glitch Disrupts Delhi Airport
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the country’s busiest airport, plunged into chaos on Friday, as more than 800 domestic and international flights were delayed due to the air traffic control system’s technical issue.
The problem reportedly stemmed from a failure in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which manages crucial Air Traffic Control (ATC) data and flight plans.
“Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA (Indira Gandhi International Airport) are experiencing delays. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders, including DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited) to resolve it at the earliest,” read a passenger advisory.
The AMSS failure also affected operations at Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, and other major airports, as flights originating from Delhi to these destinations were delayed. However, the AAI clarified that no similar technical issue has been reported at any other airport so far.
Over the past two days, teams from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Air Navigation Services (ANS), and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) worked round the clock to identify and rectify the fault. During the downtime, manual coordination protocols were activated to ensure that flight safety was not compromised.
The flight operations are now returning to normal. In an update posted on X on Saturday morning, the Delhi airport mentioned the technical issue that had impacted the AMSS was “gradually improving,” with airline operations “returning to normal.”
Several airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, issued relevant advisories for passengers.
