AK-47 Found From Ex-Doctor’s Locker At Anantnag Medical College

Jammu and Kashmir Police have recovered an AK-47 rifle from the locker of a former senior resident doctor at Government Medical College in Anantnag district.

Srinagar Police, with assistance from the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Anantnag, seized the weapon at the college premises and have detained the individual for interrogation.

Authorities confirmed that an AK-47 rifle has been found in the locker of Dr Adeel Ahmed, son of Abdul Majeed Rather, and a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag. A case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) against Ahmed, and he has been taken into custody for interrogation.

He had been serving as a senior resident doctor at GMC Anantnag until October 24, 2024.

Forensic teams are conducting detailed tests on the weapon, including tracing its serial number and performing ballistic analysis to determine whether it has been used in prior criminal or terror incidents. Investigators are also working to identify the weapon’s source, exploring whether it was smuggled, stolen, or diverted from official security stocks.

No additional details have been released regarding the origin of the rifle or how it came to be stored in the doctor’s locker. The investigation is still ongoing, and any forward linkages are being tracked down.
