A locomotive pilot suffered minor injuries after an eagle crashed into the windscreen of a train in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, according to officials.
The incident occurred in the Baramulla-Banihal train between Bijbehara and Anantnag railway stations, officials told news agency PTI. The eagle collided with the train, shattering the windscreen and injuring the pilot.
However, the bird landed safely inside the pilot’s cabin after the collision. The train was halted and the pilot received first aid at the Anantnag railway station, according to the Times of India.
Official confirmed that all passengers remained safe and the train will resume its journey after necessary checks. The video went viral on social media, showing the pilot managing the situation, communicating via radio, and dealing with the aftermath of the collision.
A similar incident took place in September, when a Bengaluru-bound Air India Express flight was cancelled due to a bird hit. An airline official told PTI that an eagle struck the nose of the aircraft while taxiing on the runway for takeoff, he said. The airline had to cancel the flight and make alternate arrangements for the passengers.
On September 2, just two days ago, a Nagpur-Kolkata IndiGo flight got cancelled due to a bird strike. The flight returned to the airport in Nagpur after a bird hit soon after take-off on Tuesday morning. As a precautionary measure, the plane, carrying 160 to 165 passengers, had to return to the Nagpur airport.
