In a sweeping counter-terror operation, the Kulgam Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday initiated a large-scale crackdown against those allegedly operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

The move was being seen as part of a wider effort to dismantle the underground ecosystem supporting terrorism in the Valley.

Sources said the crackdown was launched following a high-level meeting chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP).

According to officials, multiple Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) were carried out across several parts of Kulgam district based on credible intelligence inputs.

The searches focused on individuals suspected of facilitating or funding terror networks and maintaining communication with their relatives currently based across the border.

During the coordinated raids, several relatives and overground workers (OGWs) of these Jammu and Kashmir nationals were booked under relevant sections of law for their continued involvement in anti-national activities, including providing logistical assistance, spreading propaganda material, and helping in recruitment drives for terror outfits.

Police teams also seized a cache of digital devices and incriminating documents believed to be used for subversive purposes.

A senior police officer said the operation was part of an ongoing campaign to “completely dismantle the support structures of terror in South Kashmir”, emphasising that such measures will continue until the networks facilitating cross-border militancy are neutralised.

Meanwhile, the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) also intensified surprise inspections at multiple jails to curb the use of illegal communication channels by inmates.

“Specific inputs prompted joint inspections of barracks and belongings of prisoners, in coordination with jail authorities, to detect any unauthorised cell phones or materials aiding subversive activities,” a CIK official confirmed.

The initiative aims to tighten internal security and prevent any misuse of prison facilities.

In a related development, extensive search operations were also launched in Rajouri and Doda districts.

Doda Police conducted simultaneous searches at several locations, including the residences of slain militants and areas where recent encounters occurred.

The objective, according to officials, is to trace possible militant links, sleeper cells, and logistical support networks active in the region.

Security agencies said the coordinated crackdown across multiple districts reflects a heightened focus on disrupting terror financing and communication channels, both within the Union Territory and across the Line of Control (LoC).

Authorities reiterated that the operations will continue “until every element of the terror ecosystem, both internal and external, is identified and eliminated.”
