RSS and other groups will be allowed to hold their processions on different days in Chittapur, A-G informs Karnataka High Court

The Kalaburagi district administration on Friday told the High Court of Karnataka that it will be permitting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other organisations to hold their route marches and processions on different dates, subject to conditions, and the dates would be communicated to them by November 13.

State Advocate-General Shashi Kiran Shetty, appearing for the district administration, informed a Bench of Justice M.G.S. Kamal during the hearing on the petition filed by Ashok Patil, convener of the RSS route march, Chittapur. The petition was filed after the Chittapur tahsildar rejected the petitioner’s plea to hold the route march on October 19 in Chittapur town.

11 applications

There were 11 applications to hold processions/rallies, including by the RSS, and the authorities will consider all the applications, and grant permission as a one-time measure with certain conditions, which were discussed in the course of the meeting, the A-G said, while pointing out that it would be a one-time measure to grant permission for all applicants, and it should not be treated as a precedent.

Earlier, senior advocate Aruna Shyam M., appearing for the petitioner, told the court that a meeting held in the presence of the A-G as was directed by the court was fruitful and the petitioner would be awaiting the formal decision from the district administration.
