Four plots of land owned by the mother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, with a combined estimated value of around Rs 20 lakh, failed to attract any buyers at a recent government auction, officials said.
The auction, conducted by the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture and Property) Act Authority (SAFEMA), was the fifth attempt to sell the properties, which are located in the Khed area of Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district.
Despite being listed with base prices of Rs 2.33 lakh, Rs 9.41 lakh, Rs 8.08 lakh and Rs 15,000, no participants came forward. The auction was held on Tuesday (November 4).
An official said the authority would now plan another auction in an effort to sell the land. He added that in a previous sale attempt, one person had offered Rs 2 crore for the smallest plot, valued at Rs 15,000, but failed to complete the transaction and was subsequently blacklisted.
Dawood Ibrahim, one of the main accused of orchestrating the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, is believed to be in Pakistan. The authorities have been trying to liquidate assets linked to him and his family under SAFEMA rules as part of efforts to recover illegally obtained property and prevent misuse.
