Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president and Peravoor MLA Sunny Joseph was allegedly ousted from a function by Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers while he was inaugurating the Chavassery road project in Irrirty municipality on Tuesday.
Mr. Joseph maintained that since the road work was funded by the government, the local legislator should inaugurate it as per official protocol. However, CPI(M )workers allegedly raised slogans against him, forcing him to leave the venue.
Addressing supporters at a nearby venue later, the MLA said funds to renovate the road in the Peravoor Assembly constituency were sanctioned following complaints raised during the Navakerala Sadas.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) workers alleged that the MLA had boycotted the Navakerala Sadas and was now attempting to claim credit for the project. Following the protest, the road was inaugurated by the Irrity municipal chairperson.
Mr. Joseph said that he attended the function in his capacity as a people’s representative. He added that the road project received administrative sanction on September 19 this year and dismissed the CPI(M)’s claim that the approval came in 2024. The MLA said he had proposed ₹5.75 crore for Kakkayangad-Palapuzha road and ₹1.5 crore for Chavassery road, and that the government approved the projects accordingly.
