A disturbing cyber breach has come to light at a maternity hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat, where a technical lapse resulted in private videos of women undergoing gynaecological examinations appearing on pornographic websites. The incident has triggered serious concerns over patient privacy and digital security.
According to investigations, between January 2024 and December 2024, hackers managed to steal approximately 50,000 video clips from cameras in hospitals, schools, factories, offices, and even private homes across the country.
According to a Times of India report, the hacking network accessed over 80 CCTV dashboards in cities such as Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.
How The Cyber Breach Unfolded
The breach occurred because the hospital’s CCTV cameras used a default password. Hackers exploited this by logging into the CCTV system with the password “admin123,” stealing private footage recorded in the gynaecology ward. These clips were then sold on international porn networks for a hefty amount.
An official from the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch said, “The hackers used a ‘brute force attack’, a technique in which a bot tries thousands of password combinations until it finds the correct one.”
The mastermind behind the network, Parit Dhamelia, a B.Com graduate, employed three different software tools to execute the hacking. His accomplice, Rohit Sisodia, arrested in Delhi, concealed his identity as a medical lab technology diploma holder and accessed live hospital feeds using stolen logins.
How The Breach Was Discovered
The scandal came to light when teasers of footage from a Rajkot hospital were posted on YouTube channels. These channels directed viewers to Telegram groups, where the actual videos were sold for between Rs 700 and Rs 4,000.
Despite the arrest of the main accused in February 2025, investigators discovered that the videos remained active on Telegram until June 2025, indicating the sophisticated and organised nature of the cyber racket.
Cybersecurity Failures
The most alarming aspect is that many CCTV systems across the country still use factory default passwords like “admin123,” leaving public and private institutions vulnerable to hacking. Cyber experts highlight this negligence as a major security failure, illustrating how millions of people’s privacy can be compromised due to a simple password oversight.
